This course is a mainly a cellular neuropharmacology course that will provide students with detailed understanding of the neuronal organization of the central nervous systems from mainly a functional perspective with only brief anatomical organization. Details of the molecular structure, physiology and pharmacology of neurons and their function will be covered in an attempt to understand pathological changes that may lead to CNS disorders. Different neurotransmitter systems and their roles in the physiology and pathology of CNS disorder will be covered in detail including neurochemistry. Pharmacological agents in current medical use as well as future therapeutic agents will be discussed under each system.
